Kuwait Amateur Radio Society strengthens ties with Japan, launches special call sign 9K9JAPAN

- The Kuwait Amateur Radio Society (KARS) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting amateur radio and inspiring younger generations, highlighting the hobby’s role in fostering communication and understanding between peoples. The announcement coincided with a visit by Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mukai Kenichiro and his delegation to KARS headquarters in Surra, marking a step forward in strengthening Kuwait-Japan bilateral relations and recognizing Japan’s contributions to the development of amateur radio.
The Kuwait Amateur Radio Society (KARS) has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting the culture of amateur radio in Kuwaiti society and inspiring younger generations to embrace the hobby, highlighting its role in strengthening values of communication and understanding between peoples.
This came during the visit of the Japanese Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Mukai Kenichiro, to the KARS headquarters in Surra along wth his delegation day before yesterday evening.
The event was part of efforts to enhance bilateral relations between Kuwait and Japan and to shed light on Japan’s pioneering role in supporting and advancing amateur radio.
The ambassador and his delegation were welcomed by Chairman of KARS, Ahmed Al-Houli, in the presence of representatives from the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Social Affairs, as well as the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority.
He stressed that the visit reflected the depth of the distinguished relations between Kuwait and Japan and embodied both nations’ commitment to strengthening cooperation and communication across various fields.
Al-Houli further praised the contributions of Japanese industries and technologies in the growth and development of amateur radio, describing them as vital in supporting the mission of building bridges of communication between peoples through this unique hobby.
For his part, Vice Chairman of KARS, Ahmed Al-Turki, presented an overview of the Society’s history since its establishment in 1979 under the umbrella of Law No. 25 of 1964, and its official recognition by Ministerial Resolution No. 140 of 1980.
He highlighted the association’s pride in the patronage of its Honorary President, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad, and expressed appreciation for the efforts of the founding members who laid its foundations.
Al-Turki also underlined the Society’s ongoing efforts to promote the culture of amateur radio, encourage youth participation, and provide valuable support in times of emergency. He noted KARS’s active participation in regional and international conferences, competitions, and events, as well as its consistent presence in national occasions in Kuwait and wider Gulf and global celebrations.
To commemorate the ambassador’s historic visit, KARS announced the activation of a special call sign, 9K9JAPAN, symbolizing the close ties between Kuwait and Japan and marking the importance of the occasion in the Society’s history.
