Kuwait allocates 1.77 billion dinars for 18 major power, water projects

The timeline for completing the electricity, water, and renewable energy projects is set to be no more than five years, with strong support from the Council of Ministers to ensure their completion by the end of 2030

The largest projects include the first phase of the supply, installation, operation, and maintenance of combined cycle gas turbine units with a 3,600 MW combined cycle system, located south of the country at the Nuweseeb site, at a cost of up to 950 million dinars.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has allocated 100 million dinars for smart meter installation and 1.35 million dinars for a low-cost renewable energy purchase project, set for completion this year.

Kuwait has earmarked over 1.77 billion dinars for 18 projects aimed at revitalizing the country’s electricity and water sectors. Work has already begun, and additional projects will soon be open for competition between local and international companies. The timeline for completing the electricity, water, and renewable energy projects is set to be no more than five years, with strong support from the Council of Ministers to ensure their completion by the end of 2030, Al-Qabas newspaper reports.

A government document has revealed that the largest projects include the first phase of the supply, installation, operation, and maintenance of combined cycle gas turbine units with a 3,600 MW combined cycle system, located south of the country at the Nuweisib site, at a cost of up to 950 million dinars.

One of the major projects being carried out by the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is the implementation of the fourth phase of the supply, installation, operation, and maintenance of a joint cycle gas turbine unit to increase electrical energy capacity and the site’s power and water distillation capacity by 900 MW, at a cost of up to 257 million dinars.

Renewable energy

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energyhas also allocated 100 million dinars for the installation of smart meters across all regions of Kuwait.

One of the priority projects is the purchase of renewable energy from third parties, considered the lowest-cost project, with an implementation value of just 1.35 million dinars, and it is expected to be completed during the current year.

The document added that the Council of Ministers, through the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, is working closely with relevant entities such as the Central Authority for Public Tenders, the “Fatwa and Legislation” department, and the Audit Bureau to expedite the implementation of these projects.

Details of the projects: The following are the details of electricity, water, and renewable energy projects that local and international companies are competing to implement.
