Kuwait Airways implements proactive safety measures amid regional tensions

Kuwait Airways’ swift and comprehensive response to regional tensions underscores its position as a responsible national carrier, committed to safety, service, and national duty—even in the most challenging circumstances.

Kuwait Airways announced the implementation of proactive operational and emergency plans to ensure the safety and security of its passengers and aircraft amid escalating regional tensions. The national carrier confirmed that it has rerouted a number of incoming and outgoing flights to avoid conflict zones, in coordination with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and other relevant state authorities.

The airline emphasized that all measures are in full compliance with international aviation safety standards, as part of its ongoing commitment to operational excellence and passenger protection.

Captain Abdul Mohsen Salem Al-Faqan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kuwait Airways, said the company had anticipated the deteriorating security environment and developed multiple contingency plans even before tensions escalated, reports Al-Rai daily.

These included diverting aircraft from potentially dangerous airspaces to alternative destinations such as Jeddah and Cairo, ensuring that operations remain uninterrupted while maintaining safety.

The airline’s Emergency and Rapid Response Committee had been activated early on, with a focus on identifying potential airstrike zones and adjusting flight paths accordingly. Flights were also rescheduled to avoid hazardous conditions, reflecting the airline’s high level of preparedness.

“We have been closely monitoring developments and building forecasts to support informed decision-making in real time,” Al-Faqan stated. “The safety of our passengers and staff is our highest priority.”

In coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DGCA, and other state agencies, Kuwait Airways operated special evacuation flights to assist stranded Kuwaiti citizens. Among these efforts was the deployment of wide-body aircraft to transport large groups of passengers from Turkmenistan to Iran, further demonstrating the airline’s national role in crisis response.

Al-Faqan highlighted the declaration of an internal state of emergency at Kuwait Airways, enabling rapid mobilization across departments. He praised the Integrated Operations Control Center, describing it as a critical nerve center responsible for synchronizing all operational aspects—from aircraft readiness, fueling, and maintenance, to monitoring regional weather and potential threats.

The center operates around the clock, coordinating with domestic and international partners to ensure smooth and secure operations across the carrier’s network.

“We leave no room for uncertainty,” Al-Faqan said. “Our control center ensures that every flight detail is accounted for, from departure to arrival and back.”

Kuwait Airways is certified under the International Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a globally recognized standard that underscores the airline’s rigorous commitment to safety. The IOSA certification evaluates risk management, enhances audit performance, and reinforces the credibility of safety protocols within the aviation sector.

In a reassuring development, Al-Faqan announced that Kuwait Airways has now resumed full flight operations, with schedules returning to normal. The airline is also witnessing strong demand for summer travel, reflecting growing confidence among travelers.

The return to regular operations is accompanied by the introduction of new services, including updated in-flight entertainment, refreshed menus, and enhanced travel experiences designed to meet the needs of a modern traveler.

Kuwait Airways’ swift and comprehensive response to regional tensions underscores its position as a responsible national carrier, committed to safety, service, and national duty—even in the most challenging circumstances.
