Kuwait advances women, peace, and security agenda with national action plan workshop

Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, affirmed that the State of Kuwait is steadily advancing the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda through the establishment of the National Committee for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and comprising relevant national bodies.

Speaking at the opening of a workshop organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of Human Rights Affairs on Sunday, Sheikha Jawaher highlighted the event’s purpose: designing and preparing a comprehensive national action plan to implement Resolution 1325, reports Al-Rai daily.

The workshop was held in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and included participation from representatives of national bodies and experts from international organizations. Sheikha Jawaher noted that this year is particularly symbolic, marking the 25th anniversary of Resolution 1325 and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which together represent a landmark in global women’s empowerment.

Sheikha Jawaher emphasized Kuwait’s achievements in advancing the role of women in recent years. Kuwaiti women have increasingly participated in the army and police forces, assumed leadership positions in the diplomatic corps, and contributed significantly to economics, science, technology, and engineering.

These developments, she said, reflect Kuwait’s commitment to equal opportunities and gender equality and align with the strategic goals of Kuwait Vision 2035, which considers women’s empowerment a cornerstone of sustainable development.
Highlighting ongoing collaborations, Sheikha Jawaher appreciated the technical support provided by ESCWA in developing the National Action Plan.

She stressed the Ministry’s dedication to strengthening partnerships with United Nations organizations and national bodies to implement policies responsive to the needs of women and society. “Empowering women in Kuwait is an investment in the future of the state and society,” she said, underlining that the workshop represents a significant step toward a uniquely Kuwaiti model of multilateral and international cooperation in advancing women’s participation in peace and security.
