Kuwait a target for traffickers, but our war on drugs will not stop: Sheikh Fahad

Kuwait delivers major blow to drug networks; massive drug haul and capsule smuggling foiled in coordinated crackdown; Interior Ministry strikes hard at dealers with Hawalli, Salmiya gang bust and air cargo interception

In its relentless battle to eradicate the scourge of drugs and dismantle trafficking networks, the Ministry of Interior — acting on direct orders from First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef — has delivered a series of decisive blows to drug dealers and smugglers.

Minister Al-Yousef, in a statement to Al-Jarida, warned that Kuwait is a clear target for drug traffickers, a fact underscored by the recent wave of seizures carried out by the General Department for Drug Control, the General Administration of Customs, and other security units.

He stressed that the Ministry is engaged in a fierce war on drugs at the international, regional, and local levels, with officers working tirelessly to thwart increasingly sophisticated smuggling attempts.

Backed by strong political support, security and customs personnel are confronting trafficking operations with courage and precision. Al-Yousef praised the determination and skill of these forces in identifying and countering ever-changing smuggling methods.

In a major success, the General Department for Drug Control two days ago dismantled a criminal gang operating in the Hawalli and Salmiya areas.

Officers seized a massive haul that included about 30 kilograms of marijuana, 500 grams of shabu, 150 grams of opium, 50 grams of chemicals, 10 grams of heroin, five methadone tablets, and three sensitive electronic scales.

On another front, the minister said, the Air Cargo Customs inspectors intercepted several shipments from China containing approximately 5,591,000 empty capsules suspected of being intended for illicit drug manufacturing.

The items were disguised as “plastic parts” and “medical items” and bore the label “Pfizer PGN300,” a reference to the controlled drug Lyrica, which can only be imported under strict legal conditions.

The Ministry of Interior reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating all forms of drug trafficking and to prosecuting those involved, underscoring that the safety and security of Kuwaiti society remains a top priority.
