KU expands campus transport services for student safety, comfort

In a continued effort to improve the student experience, the Kuwait University has announced the expansion of its on-campus transportation system by increasing the number of shuttle buses and introducing electric golf cars to ease movement between college buildings and parking areas.

This initiative, spearheaded by the university’s Security and Safety Department, aims to ensure greater accessibility and convenience across the sprawling university grounds, especially for students and faculty who must traverse long distances between classes and facilities.

Alongside these upgrades, the university has issued a strong safety advisory urging students to avoid using college basement areas as shortcuts. According to recent observations, some students have been passing through underground spaces to move between buildings — a practice the university says poses unnecessary risks, reports Al-Rai daily.

“The basements were not designed for public passage and may pose hazards to users,” the university stated, emphasizing its concern for student welfare. Officials urged all students to use designated transportation options or safe walking routes provided by the campus infrastructure.

In case of emergencies, the Security and Safety Department reminded students and staff to contact the university’s dedicated 24/7 emergency hotline at 24983333.

The enhanced transport services and safety reminders come as part of Kuwait University’s broader mission to create a secure, efficient, and student-friendly campus environment.
