KOC to re-tender $130 million Environmental Remediation Project in 2026

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) is set to re-tender its environmental remediation initiative, Sustainable Environmental Economic Development – Phase Two (Seed-2), in early 2026.
The tender, initially planned for the first quarter of 2025, was postponed due to several factors, primarily restructuring within the company that affected the offering process.
KOC is still deciding whether the tender will be limited to Kuwaiti companies or opened to international contractors, according to Al-Qabas daily.
The project will be offered under five-year service contracts and involves the treatment of approximately 4 million cubic meters of contaminated soil, at an estimated cost of 50 million dinars ($130 million). Funding will come directly from KOC’s budget, unlike earlier projects that received support from the United Nations’ Kuwait Environmental Rehabilitation Program.
The Seed-2 project will be executed across three main regions: northern, western, and southeastern Kuwait. The original Sustainable Environmental Economic Development Project launched in 2012 as a pilot in the Burgan field, the world’s second-largest oil field.
The pilot aimed to treat 0.9 million cubic meters of soil, 0.16 million cubic meters of oil sludge, and recover 0.8 million barrels of free oil by 2016. Several environmental remediation projects implemented since then have reportedly exceeded expectations.
Meanwhile, KOC issued a tender for the condensate stabilization unit installation at Booster Station 171 (BS-171), with bids due November 25 and a pre-bid meeting scheduled for September 24.
Condensate stabilization removes impurities from natural gas condensates, separating components to meet required purity and stability for transport.
BS-171 processes associated gas from Gathering Centers 17, 27, and 28, as well as Early Production Facility 18. It was the first booster station in Kuwait designed to handle sour gas, necessary due to high hydrogen sulfide content in gas produced in western Kuwait.
