The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) is moving forward to complete a large development project, to establish a research center consisting of 10 units specialized in advanced research facilities, including the Support Unit and Advisory Services for the Evaluation of Construction Systems and Infrastructure, Resolution of Judicial Disputes related to the Implementation of Construction Projects and their Assets, Geotechnical Studies, Concrete and Cement Technology, Innovative Composite Materials, and Applications of Recycled Materials Exploiting Construction Waste and Waste of Local Industries.

The project also includes the establishment of a unit for studies of rust and corrosion treatment and the degradation of armed concrete facilities and industrial structures, microscopic studies and analysis of material compounds, and computer modeling programs for the design of material and innovative structures, a unit for studies of asphalt techniques, paving and road networks, a unit for durability and non-destructive safety checks and preliminary surveys, as well as a unit for the management and implementation of projects and the preservation of construction assets.

Economic Projects

According to the study, the center will provide technical and advisory support to the public and private sector, and will sponsor industrial and economic projects, provide technical advice and services to explore investment opportunities and market patents held by the center for the private sector. In addition, it would provide economic feasibility studies for their applications, to establish and support manufacturing industries, and develop technologies for the production of alternative and recycled building materials.

The project will provide special services in quality control systems, control of material inspections and construction evaluation methods, maintenance of buildings, roads and facilities, engaging the latest systems to achieve the reliability of infrastructure strength, and evaluating the economic feasibility of building and construction techniques.

Urban Expansion

The center, scheduled to be completed at the end of the first quarter of 2027, will exploit the latest mathematical modeling programs to calculate the operational life of existing buildings and facilities, while laying the general foundations to contribute to the review, amendment and revision of local and regional design and construction codes.

The center will also work to find the latest technologies, foundations of planning for urban expansion, building new cities, marketing and investment opportunities through these, in addition to developing human capabilities required to implement and support the development projects listed in the structural plan “New Kuwait 2035”.
