KISR says ready to support national response to radiological emergencies

Dr. Faisal Al-Humaidan, Acting Director General of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), confirmed the institute’s full commitment to supporting the state’s efforts in enhancing national preparedness and responding effectively to radiological and nuclear incidents.
He emphasized that this support is provided in close coordination with relevant authorities and within established national frameworks aimed at safeguarding public health and protecting the environment.
“We are capable of accurately measuring and analyzing radiation levels in the air,” Al-Humaidan stated, underscoring the institute’s technical capabilities.
He further noted that KISR is fully prepared to offer technical support and scientific advice to decision-makers, enabling Kuwait to manage any potential radiological or nuclear emergency in a scientific and systematic manner that minimizes risks and impacts, reports Al-Rai daily.
Highlighting KISR’s pivotal role in the national emergency plan, Al-Humaidan explained that the institute operates an advanced radiation monitoring network capable of detecting both natural and industrial radiation sources.
Its specialized laboratories analyze radiation levels in various environmental media — including soil, air, water, marine sediments, and food—using cutting-edge techniques.
