KISR launches upgraded KDR to advance Kuwait’s scientific knowledge

The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has launched the upgraded version of its digital repository (KDR), marking a major step in strengthening Kuwait’s national research infrastructure and promoting an open, sustainable scientific community.
Fadhila Taqi, head of the digital repository project at KISR’s National Center for Scientific and Technological Information, said the upgrade aligns with the institute’s strategic goal of adopting advanced digital preservation solutions to safeguard intellectual and institutional outputs from loss or damage.
She explained that the new KDR system incorporates modern technologies to boost performance, broaden engagement with diverse scientific content, and provide researchers with seamless access to research outputs, fostering stronger knowledge exchange between institutions, reports Al-Rai daily.
Taqi noted that the repository’s foundation began years ago to digitally preserve KISR’s scientific work, including thousands of technical reports and government studies. The first phase established a local digital lab and a digitization management system developed in collaboration with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, enabling the digitization of over 10,000 reports and studies.
She praised the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s role in developing the enhanced version, citing its expertise in repository infrastructure and content management.
Taqi emphasized that this milestone supports Kuwait’s strategic goals for science and technology and reflects KISR’s commitment to building a modern, knowledge-driven society.
