Khamenei calls for Hormuz pressure as Trump vows to block Iran’s nuclear ambitions

In his first message reflecting the hardline stance of the faction he represents, Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei signaled an escalation and continuation of the conflict, calling for the sustained use of the strategic pressure of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, Donald Trump warned that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remains more important than concerns about rising oil prices.

Despite the tough rhetoric, Khamenei also said Iran was ready to establish friendly relations with neighboring countries, a message that appeared contradictory as he simultaneously demanded that regional states shut down American military bases, warning that Tehran would continue targeting them if they remained operational, reports Al-Rai daily.

Addressing the Iranian public, Khamenei stressed that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz should remain a tool of pressure and warned that Iran could open additional fronts if the war continues.

He also said Iran would seek compensation from what he called the “enemy” by any means possible, cautioning that if payment is refused, these countries’ assets would be destroyed in retaliation.

At the same time Khamenei’s speech was broadcast, Trump stated that the United States, as the world’s largest oil producer, benefits when oil prices rise.

However, he emphasized that his primary concern as president is preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, which he warned could destabilize the Middle East and threaten global security.
