KFF highlights importance of gas leak detectors in kitchens

In a firm reminder to households across Kuwait, the Kuwait Fire Force has sounded the alarm on the dangers of gas leaks in kitchens, urging residents to take a small yet potentially life-saving step —installing gas leak detectors.

The call came as part of the continued efforts of the KFF to safeguard public safety and reduce domestic accidents. According to the statement, these compact devices are designed to detect even the slightest leakage from gas cylinders, offering early warnings that could help prevent devastating fires, reports Al-Anba daily.

Kitchen fires caused by gas leaks, officials say, are often avoidable with simple precautions. The KFF outlined essential safety practices, emphasizing that cylinders must always be placed securely and correctly.

Residents are warned never to flip a switch or create a spark if they suspect a gas leak. Instead, the advice is to shut off the gas valve immediately, open all doors and windows to ventilate the space, and evacuate the area until it’s safe.

Routine maintenance and regular inspection of hose connections between gas cylinders and cooking appliances are also key to preventing leaks, the department added.

As Kuwait enters the hotter months when cooking indoors becomes more common, the KFF hopes that households will take the warning seriously. A gas leak detector, they say, may seem like a minor addition — but it could mean the difference between a safe home and a tragic fire.
