KFAED signs $685,000 grant agreement with FAO to enhance agricultural authority performance
The project will also focus on human resource development, offering training courses and workshops to enhance the skills and competencies of the Authority’s employees, ensuring sustainable improvements in service delivery.

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has signed a grant agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to support a project aimed at improving the overall performance of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR).
The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including the Minister of Electricity and Water, the Minister of Finance, the Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, and Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PAAAFR. Eng. Salem Al-Hai, Director General of the Authority, was also present, reports Al-Rai daily.
Under the agreement, KFAED will provide a grant of US$685,000 (approximately 214,000 Kuwaiti dinars) to FAO to finance studies that will enhance the institutional and operational capabilities of PAAAFR.
The grant agreement was signed on behalf of FAO by Abdulhakim Al-Waer, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, while Walid Al-Bahar, Acting Director-General of KFAED, signed on behalf of the Fund.
The project aims to develop a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening PAAAFR’s institutional performance, including implementing selected projects and initiatives designed to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the Authority.
An essential part of the project involves building a comprehensive database for various departments within PAAAFR to streamline operations and improve decision-making processes.
The project will also focus on human resource development, offering training courses and workshops to enhance the skills and competencies of the Authority’s employees, ensuring sustainable improvements in service delivery.
According to the grant application, the total cost of the project is estimated at approximately $685,000, with an implementation period of around nine months.
Officials highlighted that this initiative aligns with Kuwait’s broader goals of modernizing its agricultural and fisheries sectors, improving operational performance, and building institutional capacity to better serve the nation’s food security and economic development objectives.
The partnership between KFAED and FAO reflects Kuwait’s commitment to leveraging international expertise and resources to enhance public sector performance and ensure the sustainability of its strategic development projects.
