KFAED lays foundation stone for cancer treatment center in Chad

A delegation from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) took part in the official foundation stone laying ceremony for constructing and equipping a cancer treatment and control center in N’Djamena, the capital of the Republic of Chad.

The project marks a significant milestone in Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to support the healthcare infrastructure in friendly nations, particularly across Africa, reports Al-Rai daily.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of the President of Chad, Field Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, Foreign Minister was represented by Dr. Abdallah Saber Fadl. The event was also attended by Minister of Public Health and Prevention Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Rahim, along with several senior officials and dignitaries.

Representing the Kuwait Fund were Thamer Al-Failakawi, Director of Operations (on behalf of Acting Director General Waleed Al-Bahar), and Yousef Al-Shatti. In his address, Al-Failakawi emphasized the Fund’s firm belief in healthcare as a fundamental human right. “Laying the foundation stone for this project represents a step towards building a better, healthier future for the people of the friendly Republic of Chad,” he said. “We at the Kuwait Fund believe that health is not just a service, but a human right and an indispensable foundation for sustainable development.”

Chadian officials welcomed the initiative warmly. Foreign Minister Fadl highlighted the project’s importance, stating, “The center continues to serve as a model for all of Central Africa. The establishment of this center aims to correct social injustice, as patients are treated away from their families.”

Health Minister Dr. Abdul Majeed described the project as both symbolic and transformative: “This project represents a decisive turning point in the fight against cancer, one of the most silent and devastating epidemics of modern times.”

The new cancer center is part of a broader commitment by the Kuwait Fund to strengthen healthcare systems in developing countries. The facility will provide critical care and treatment services, significantly improving the quality of life for cancer patients in Chad and potentially the wider Central African region.
