KFAED, JICA sign MoU to boost global development and crisis response

In conjunction with the official visit of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Japan — a visit that reflects the deep historical ties and evolving strategic partnership between the State of Kuwait and Japan — a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Osaka.
In a statement issued Saturday, the Kuwait Fund confirmed that the signing of the agreement reflects the shared commitment of both parties to expand development cooperation, exchange expertise, and foster greater integration in implementing sustainable development initiatives that support the broader goals of developing countries, reports Al-Rai daily.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the Fund by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Fund’s Board of Directors, Abdullah Al-Yahya, and on behalf of the Japanese side by Shohei Hara, Senior Vice President of JICA.
The memorandum aims to establish a structured framework for technical collaboration and joint efforts in financing economic and social development across developing nations.
It also seeks to strengthen bilateral coordination in response to humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters, while promoting the mutual exchange of information and specialized technical knowledge.
According to the Fund, the memorandum is valid for a renewable period of five years, during which both sides plan to focus on specific activities in countries where both organizations are present.
Among the key objectives outlined in the agreement is the exchange of knowledge and best practices to benefit from each party’s experience and capabilities.
This includes sharing information on operational activities and technical assistance programs related to poverty eradication, socio-economic development, and post-crisis recovery.
The MoU also envisions consultations on development policies and issues of mutual concern, with coordinated efforts in implementation and program alignment, considering each party’s procedures and frameworks.
Moreover, it encourages the identification of joint projects and programs eligible for support — whether through parallel funding or technical collaboration — particularly in areas such as climate change, global food security, and other development priorities.
Both parties also agreed to share general publications and studies issued by either side and to participate in forums, seminars, and workshops organized on topics of shared interest.
This agreement underscores the depth of Kuwaiti-Japanese relations and affirms the commitment of both countries to strengthening international cooperation frameworks.
It represents a united effort to support sustainable development, promote humanitarian collaboration, and contribute to building a more stable and equitable future for developing nations around the world.
