KFAED and SIDA ink cooperation deal to expand global development efforts

New Kuwait–Sweden partnership targets infrastructure and sustainable development; MoU sets framework for joint projects between Kuwait Fund and Swedish aid agency

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Sweden, represented by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), establishing a framework to strengthen international collaboration between the two institutions in areas of mutual interest.

The agreement aims to enhance coordination in countries where both sides already operate development programs and projects. Cooperation will cover social, economic and sustainable development initiatives, infrastructure projects, and the exchange of technical expertise, while respecting the policies and priorities of each institution, reports Al-Rai daily.

The memorandum was signed on behalf of Sweden by SIDA Director General Dr. Jakob Granit and on behalf of the Kuwait Fund by Acting Director General Waleed Shamlan Al-Bahr.

Under the agreement, both parties will work on the early identification of projects that may qualify for joint support, whether through financial contributions or technical assistance, in line with each institution’s operational framework. The partnership also provides for periodic consultations to coordinate activities in countries where both sides are present, including Ukraine and Syria.

The two institutions will seek to strengthen cooperation in priority sectors such as agriculture and food security, water supply and sanitation, education, and health. The memorandum also encourages the exchange of information and knowledge sharing to maximize the use of each party’s expertise, resources and institutional capabilities.

The move reflects a shared commitment to expanding development partnerships and improving the effectiveness of international assistance through closer coordination and joint planning.
