Jordanian, Lebanese, Tunisian Scholars among laureates of prestigious 43rd Kuwait Prize

Prize, launched in 1979, supports its mission to promote scientific excellence and encourage Arab researchers worldwide

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) announced today the winners of the 43rd Kuwait Prize for 2024, honoring distinguished Kuwaiti and Arab scientists whose research and intellectual contributions have had a global impact.

In a press release, KFAS stated that the winners were selected following approval by its Board of Directors and Awards Council, based on recommendations from the prize’s arbitration and selection committees, reports Al-Rai daily.

Award Winners by Field

Basic Sciences (Biological Sciences) — Professor Ashraf Ibrahim (Jordan), Director of the PhD program in Translational Medicine at the Lundquist Institute, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, USA.

He was honored for his pioneering work in applied biology and translational medicine, developing innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for chronic and complex diseases.

Applied Sciences (Engineering Sciences) – Professor Charbel Farhat (Lebanon), Professor of Aeronautics & Astronautics at Stanford University, USA

Professor Khaled Latif (Tunisia), Dean of Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

Both were recognized for groundbreaking contributions in systems engineering, intelligent design, and communications that have advanced the global engineering sector.

Economics and Social Sciences (Administrative Sciences) — Professor Dima Al-Jamali (Lebanon), Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Canadian University in Dubai

Professor Shawkat Hamoudeh (Jordan), Professor of Economics and International Business at Drexel University, USA

They were awarded for their influential research in governance, sustainability, and international economic policy, helping shape modern management theories.

Humanities, Arts and Literature (History of Civilizations and Human Thought) — Professor Zeidan Kafafi (Jordan), Professor of Archaeology at Yarmouk University

He received the prize for his significant work in archaeology and cultural history, enhancing academic understanding of the development of human civilizations in the Arab world.

KFAS emphasized that the Kuwait Prize, launched in 1979, supports its mission to promote scientific excellence and encourage Arab researchers worldwide. The award is presented annually in four main categories — Basic Sciences, Applied Sciences, Economic and Social Sciences, and Arts and Literature — while a fifth category, Emerging Specialized Sciences, is awarded biennially.
