Jong Un pledges stronger bilateral ties with Russia ahead of Putin-Trump Alaska summit

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin have vowed to enhance cooperation between their nations, just two days ahead of Putin’s planned summit in Alaska with U.S. President Donald Trump, Pyongyang’s state media reported today.
According to the Korean Central News Agency, the two leaders held a phone conversation on Tuesday in a “warm and friendly atmosphere,” expressing mutual readiness to strengthen future ties.
During the call, Putin praised “the spirit of sacrifice shown by the Korean People’s Army” in the liberation of Russia’s Kursk region, which had been seized by Ukrainian forces in August 2024 before being retaken in the spring with assistance from a North Korean division.
For his part, Kim pledged North Korea’s full support for any future actions taken by Russia’s leadership.
The Kremlin confirmed the discussion, noting that Putin shared information with Kim in the context of his upcoming talks with Trump.
