Jazeera Airways direct flight to Budapest a ‘historic moment’
New air link represents not just a milestone in travel but a gateway to deeper people-to-people, economic, and cultural cooperation between Hungary and Kuwait

Hungarian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. András Szabó said bilateral relations between Hungary and Kuwait are growing remarkably, especially following last year’s celebrations of 60 years of diplomatic ties, culminating in the Hungarian Foreign Minister’s visit to Kuwait in September 2024.
Ambassador Szabó described the launch of the first direct Jazeera Airways flight from Kuwait to Budapest on Thursday, June 5, a “historic moment” — the first such direct route since 1989, reports Al-Rai daily.
He highlighted the strength of political and diplomatic relations between both countries, and has culminated in signing and renewal of multiple agreements across various sectors in recent months.
While calling for greater economic engagement, the ambassador said his mission is to strengthen trade and tourism to Budapest, especially as Hungarian businesspeople and tourists increasingly return to the Gulf region.
Szabó recalled presenting his credentials to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who stressed the importance of enhancing relations.
He emphasized Kuwait’s historic role as Hungary’s first partner in the region, hosting the country’s first Gulf embassy, which once managed relations with all GCC countries.
He praised Jazeera Airways for its “wise and ambitious” strategy, calling the addition of Budapest to its destination network a “smart decision.” The embassy, he revealed, is currently processing thousands of visa applications, reflecting a surge in Kuwaiti interest in visiting Hungary.
The ambassador concluded by saying this new air link represents not just a milestone in travel but a gateway to deeper people-to-people, economic, and cultural cooperation between Hungary and Kuwait.
