Japan-Kuwait relations, a partnership beyond economy towards sustainable future

The Japanese Embassy in Kuwait hosted National Day ceremony to celebrate the 65th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, which was attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Sabah, along with diplomats and senior state officials.
The Japanese Ambassador in Kuwait, His Excellency Mukai Kenichiro noted that His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, Japan’s 126th Emperor, will celebrate his 65th birthday on February 23. He expressed happiness at being able to celebrate Japan’s National Day in Kuwait, coinciding with the 64th National Day of the State of Kuwait and the 34th anniversary of its liberation next week.
Ambassador Kenichiro shared that three months have passed in the blink of an eye since he arrived in Kuwait last November and presented his credentials to His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad, at the end of December.
Since then, Ambassador Kenichiro met many people who have expressed their trust, friendship with Japan, and love for Japanese culture. This has been deeply satisfying and has renewed his commitment to further developing this relationship. One person remarked, ‘Strengthening relations between Kuwait and Japan will lead to Kuwait’s development.’
Ambassador Kenichiro believes the same holds true for Japan. The relationship we build together goes beyond economic ties, encompassing diverse fields such as culture and education.”
Importantly, Ambassador Kenichiro highlighted the significance of this year, as Kuwait and other nations prepare to participate in “World Expo 2025”, which is set to take place on April 13th 2025, in Osaka, under the theme “Designing Future Societies for Our Lives.”
Ambassador Kenichiro expressed hope that many Kuwaitis will visit “Kansai-Osaka Expo” to explore the Kuwaiti pavilion and other exhibitions.
Kuwait “Visionary Lighthouse”
Designed by LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture), Kuwait will present itself as a “Visionary Lighthouse” at World Expo Osaka 2025, showcasing state-of-the-art technology.
The pavilion will feature two expansive wings at the entrance, symbolizing Kuwait’s warm hospitality, tolerance, and its contributions to Arab culture, arts, and social welfare.
The Kuwait pavilion’s exhibition is set to spotlight the nation’s commitment to a sustainable future and its efforts to enhance its global status through economic diversification and targeted national development.
The grand international event will further enhance mutual understanding and cooperation among nations for peace and harmony around the world, addressing pressing issues such as climate change and global health.
Ambassador Kenichiro stated that the Expo will showcase the most advanced Japanese technologies, including AI, advanced mobility, and healthcare innovations. He also highlighted that the venue will be carbon neutral, utilizing hydrogen clean energy system and CO2 emission-reducing concrete.
Furthermore, Ambassador Kenichiro also noted that the Expo will provide an opportunity to strengthen economic ties through increased direct investment. He emphasized that Japan is a major market and a highly attractive investment destination, with capital investment reaching approximately, 700 billion USD in 2023.
Attack on Titan
Ambassador Kenichiro highlighted the strong popularity of Japanese culture in Kuwait, noting that Figurama Collectors donated characters from the Japanese anime “Attack on Titan” and others for display. He emphasized that “Attack on Titan” conveys a powerful message about the importance of peace and the value of human life amid the struggles and conflicts people endure. He expressed his hope that individuals worldwide would work together to bring the world closer to peace.
Japanese Food
Ambassador Kenichiro highlighted that Japanese food is an integral part of Japanese culture. He mentioned that a variety of Japanese dishes were prepared for the event, including Osaka/Kansai specialties such as Koshi Katsu and Oshizushi, in honor of the upcoming exhibition. The chef creatively combined Japanese cuisine with local Kuwaiti vegetables and seafood, showcasing a unique blend of flavors.
Tea Experience
The embassy dedicated a space for guests to experience traditional Japanese tea and another area to showcase statues of popular Japanese anime characters, presented by Figurama Collectors. These displays were designed to introduce and celebrate Japanese folk culture.
Hybrid Cars
The Japanese Embassy showcased a selection of Japanese vehicles, including Lexus, Mazda, and Suzuki models, highlighting their environment-friendly and fuel-efficient hybrid technology.
