IWG hosts memorable Ramadan Ghabka with Palestinian Embassy
The event united Kuwait’s diplomats, officials, and IWG members, featuring a moment of silence for Palestinian martyrs and interactive stations highlighting Palestinian culture, including henna, Qatayef-making, a carob vendor, and handicrafts displays.
• The Ramadan Ghabka, themed “Palestine – The History and Civilization,” featured a screening of Palestinian artist Suleiman Mansour’s paintings, videos on Jerusalem’s Ramadan customs and landmarks, and a performance by an all-female group of musicians and artists.
The International Women’s Group (IWG), in collaboration with the Embassy of Palestine, hosted a Ramadan Ghabka themed “Palestine – The History and Civilization” at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, bringing together Kuwait’s diplomatic community, officials, and IWG members.
Mrs. Polina Dlamini, President of the IWG and wife of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Eswatini, thanked the Embassy of Palestine and IWG member Mrs. Rima Khalidi, wife of the Palestinian Ambassador, for organizing the Ramadan Ghabka and highlighting the significance of Palestine’s history and its deep-rooted connection with its indigenous people.
The program began with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs of Palestine.
In his opening speech, His Excellency Rami Tahboub, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Kuwait, extended his congratulations to the State of Kuwait, led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al–Ahmad Al– JaberAl–Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al–Hamad Al–Sabah, and the Kuwaiti people on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
He also congratulated IWG members on International Women’s Day and expressed gratitude to IWG’s executive board for the opportunity to host the Palestinian Ramadan Ghabka. Ambassador Tahboub then shared insights on the current situation in Palestine and its impact on the lives of the Palestinian people.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Rima Khalidi, who served as the master of ceremonies, delivered a speech highlighting various aspects of Palestine’s history, culture, and civilization.
A screening of paintings by Palestinian artist Suleiman Mansour preceded each segment of the program, which featured a variety of cultural presentations. These included a video on Ramadan customs in Jerusalem, a screening of Welcome to Palestine showcasing the historical, religious, and cultural landmarks of Palestine, and a performance by Daughters of Jerusalem, an all-female group of young musicians and artists from Jerusalem.
Additionally, there was a presentation on three inspiring Palestinian women who have become experts and icons in their respective fields, a documentary on Jericho—the world’s oldest inhabited city and the lowest point below sea level—highlighting its rich agricultural heritage, and a short video on the traditional making of Nabulsi soap.
The program also featured the song Haddi Ya Bahar, performed by IWG member Mrs. Shireen Hattar, accompanied by Oud player Mr. Ra’fat Al Jada’. Attendees then enjoyed a Palestinian fashion demonstration set to the music of Palestinian composer Clarissa Bitar, showcasing the intricate beauty of traditional Palestinian embroidery, which dates back to the Canaanite era.
The event reached a high point with a lively performance by Shabab Falasteen Folklore Troupe, who captivated the audience with the Palestinian Dabkeh dance, including a reenactment of a traditional Palestinian wedding.
Mrs. Khalidi concluded the program with a presentation on Palestinian cuisine and its deep-rooted connection to the land and olive trees, highlighting how each Palestinian recipe carries a rich historical and cultural significance.
Interactive stations at the event showcased Palestinian culture through a henna corner, live Qatayef-making, a traditionally dressed carob vendor, and displays of Palestinian handicrafts.
To wrap up the evening, attendees enjoyed a spread of delicious Palestinian dishes prepared by the chefs of the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
