Italian flag-waving performances enchant crowds at The Avenues during Italian Design Week

Over the weekend, The Avenues Mall came alive with vibrant artistic performances by the renowned Italian troupe “Sbandieratori di Gubbio” (Gubbio’s historic flag-waving group), captivating hundreds of visitors with a mesmerizing display of color, rhythm, and tradition. The shows, held on Friday and Saturday, were part of the ongoing Italian Design Week in Kuwait, which celebrates Italy’s rich creativity and craftsmanship.

The performances attracted a large audience of citizens and residents who enjoyed the authentic Italian ambiance and lively cultural exchange. The Italian Design Festival, which began on October 19 at The Avenues Mall, continues until October 29 at the Contemporary Art Platform (CAP), offering a diverse program that showcases Italy’s excellence in design, art, fashion, and music — blending high culture with accessible entertainment.

Speaking on the occasion, Italian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Lorenzo Morini expressed his delight at the strong public response, saying: “We are delighted to see the great enthusiasm shown by the Kuwaiti public for Italian culture. The Italian Design Festival is not just a showcase of beauty and creativity, but a bridge of cultural communication and dialogue between Italy and Kuwait, reflecting the depth of bilateral relations and the historical friendship that unites the two countries.”

Ambassador Morini highlighted that the Sbandieratori di Gubbio represent a unique aspect of Italian heritage, explaining that the centuries-old tradition of flag-waving symbolizes pride, skill, and belonging. “It is wonderful to share this cultural heritage with the dear Kuwaiti audience,” he added.

He further noted that Italian Design Week aims to present Italy’s innovation across multiple disciplines — from industrial and architectural design to traditional arts — emphasizing that “Italy’s spirit of innovation lies in the harmony between tradition and modernity.”

The performances received widespread acclaim from the audience, who were enthralled by the synchronized flag movements and accompanying traditional music.

The festive and colorful scenes brought a touch of Italian history to Kuwait, concluding the weekend on a high note and reaffirming the success of Italian Design Week in fostering cultural dialogue and artistic appreciation between Italy and Kuwait.
