Israeli army spokesman Avi Deveren announced on Saturday that Israel is conducting airstrikes on Iranian territory, confirming that military operations against strategic targets are currently underway.
“We are bombing Iran at this hour,” Deveren stated, noting that the focus of the strikes is on Iranian surface-to-surface missile sites. “We will continue to attack and destroy Iran’s missile infrastructure wherever necessary,” he emphasized.
Deveren acknowledged the threat posed by Iran’s missile capabilities, stressing that Tehran maintains a formidable arsenal capable of causing significant harm to Israel. “Iran has weapons that can inflict serious damage on Israeli cities and infrastructure, and we are acting decisively to eliminate that threat,” he said.
The latest developments mark a dramatic escalation in regional tensions, with Israeli forces targeting what they consider critical military assets within Iran. The Israeli government has framed the strikes as preemptive and defensive, aimed at neutralizing immediate threats to national security.
Meanwhile, Iranian state television reported that air defense systems had been activated in southern Iran, particularly around the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas on the Arabian Gulf. According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), explosions were heard as Iranian defense units responded to incoming Israeli missiles, suggesting an intense aerial exchange.
The airstrikes come as diplomatic and military tensions between the two nations continue to deteriorate.
Earlier in the day, Tehran published what it claimed were “secret Israeli documents” and accused IAEA chief Rafael Grossi of cooperating with Tel Aviv.
At the same time, international condemnation has mounted, with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization criticizing Israel for violating international law amid the escalating conflict.
These developments further raise the specter of a broader confrontation in the region, with global powers urging restraint as military activities intensify.
