Islamic Affairs urges reduced Iqama time, shorter prayers to conserve electricity

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs issued a circular to Imams and Muezzins urging the rationalization of electricity and water usage in mosques. The circular recommended reducing the duration of the midday and afternoon prayers and avoiding unnecessary prolongation.

The Circular No. (8) of 2024, issued by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, outlined guidelines for rationalizing electricity and water usage in mosques.

Based on instructions from the Undersecretary of the Ministry and a message from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, the circular specifies that the scheduled periods for energy usage in mosques across the six governorates will be as follows:

From half an hour after the noon call to prayer until a quarter of an hour before the afternoon prayer, and from half an hour after the afternoon prayer until 5 pm, according to the Kuwait mosques application. The circular also instructed Imams and Muezzins to reduce the time spent during the noon and afternoon prayers and avoid prolonging them.
