
Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al- Sabah reiterated on Thursday Kuwait’s condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states since February 28, considering them a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and that of the GCC states.
In a speech delivered while heading Kuwait’s delegation to the joint ministerial meeting between the GCC and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, held virtually, the Kuwaiti top diplomat noted that the attacks are a flagrant breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the UN Charter.
He affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to its right to self-defense, based on Article 51 of the UN Charter, and its intention to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its territory, and ensure the security of its citizens and residents.
He added that the Iranian threat to maritime security and shipping extends to global energy security, the stability of the international economy, and the sustainability of supply chains. He welcomed the adoption by the Security Council of Resolution 2817, which condemned the
Iranian attacks targeting the GCC states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as the resolution’s emphasis on respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and rejecting the targeting of civilians and vital infrastructure.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister also commended the position of the friendly United Kingdom in solidarity with the GCC states in the face of the blatant Iranian attacks. He further affirmed the strategic partnership between the GCC states and the United Kingdom, expressing his aspiration to work towards building closer relations in all fields, including political, security, and economic cooperation. – KUNA
