Iran vows ‘firm and appropriate response’ after reimposition of sanctions

Iran issued a stern warning today, vowing to take a “firm and appropriate response” just hours after the United Nations reimposed sanctions linked to its nuclear program — sanctions that had been lifted ten years ago under international agreements.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that Tehran would not compromise on its sovereignty or the rights of its people.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will firmly defend its national rights and interests, and will respond firmly and appropriately to any action aimed at undermining the interests and rights of its people,” the statement read.

The reinstatement of UN sanctions represents a significant escalation in the long-standing dispute over Iran’s nuclear activities. The measures, which had been frozen for a decade, impose restrictions that could have far-reaching consequences on Iran’s economy and international relations.

Tehran’s strong reaction highlights the seriousness with which it views the renewed sanctions, framing them not only as an external political challenge but also as a direct threat to its national stability. Analysts caution that the move could fuel fresh tensions in the region and complicate already strained diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis.
