Iran fires salvo of missiles at Israel following Israeli strikes on nuclear sites

In a sharp escalation of tensions, Iran has launched missile attacks targeting central and northern Israel in response to Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure. Israeli emergency services report that at least 10 people have been killed in the missile strikes, though Iran has not confirmed any casualties.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Iran will pay a “very heavy price” for the deaths of Israeli civilians.

Meanwhile, BBC journalists remain unable to report from inside Iran due to strict government restrictions, limiting independent assessment of the damage caused by Israel’s offensive.

Despite being hit by a missile, Tehran’s Shahran oil depot continues to operate, and oil exports between Iran and Afghanistan have resumed. The ongoing third consecutive night of strikes dims hopes for a renewed nuclear deal, according to BBC’s Middle East regional editor Sebastian Usher.

The Israeli military announced today it struck “more than 80 targets” in the Iranian capital, Tehran, yesterday.

The military statement said the strike was carried out “overnight” and targeted “more than 80 targets, including the Iranian Defense Ministry headquarters, the nuclear project headquarters, and additional targets where the Iranian regime was hiding its nuclear archive.”
