Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his counterparts from France, Britain, and Germany agreed today to restart negotiations on nuclear issues and sanctions, with deputy foreign ministers set to meet Tuesday.
German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul confirmed the talks and warned Tehran that failure to reach a verifiable and sustainable agreement could trigger the UN “snapback” sanctions mechanism, reports Al-Jarida.
Araqchi dismissed the ability of European powers to invoke the mechanism, calling them “legally and morally unfit” to do so and cautioned against the consequences of such a step.
Western nations accuse Iran of exploiting its nuclear program, though Tehran denies seeking weapons. The IAEA says Iran is far from developing a bomb, while US intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard previously confirmed no evidence of weaponization.
