Investigation continues as 19 detained in cooperative bribery

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that investigations uncovered evidence showing that members had received bribes from companies to prioritize their products within the cooperatives.

• The Ministry of Interior had announced the dismantling of a corruption network involving five members of the Union of Cooperative Societies, the board of directors of a cooperative society, six commercial companies, and 14 brokers and employees.

The Criminal Court held the first session in the bribery case involving 19 defendants linked to the Union of Cooperative Societies, including a director, four union members, company directors, and others. While all defendants denied the charges, the court ordered their continued detention and scheduled a hearing on October 17 for review and defense, Al Qabas newspaper reported.

The Ministry of Interior, through the Criminal Investigation Sector, had earlier announced the dismantling of a corruption network involving five members of the Union of Cooperative Societies, the board of directors of a cooperative society, six commercial companies, and 14 brokers and employees. The operation was carried out under directives from First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef.

In a prior statement, the ministry confirmed that investigations uncovered evidence showing that members had received bribes from companies to prioritize their products within the cooperatives.
