International Women’s Group and Greek Embassy celebrate Greek Cultural Day in Kuwait

Greek Cultural Day exemplified the power of cultural exchange and human connection, strengthening bonds between Greece and Kuwait while celebrating shared values, heritage, and traditions.

The International Women’s Group (IWG), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Kuwait, proudly hosted Greek Cultural Day on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The event centered on the theme: “Greece – Healthy Nutrition, Mindful Living, and the Power of Human Connection.”

In her opening remarks, the President of IWG, Mrs. Marika Kochlamazashvili, spouse of the Ambassador of the Republic of Georgia, expressed gratitude to all attendees and acknowledged the support of the Vice-President of IWG, Theano Tsoumi Plotas, and His Excellency, Ambassador H. E. Ioannis Plotas, for organizing the event. In her address, she highlighted the significance of cultural exploration and joyful gatherings. The President also emphasized that future IWG events would continue to offer a truly enriching experience for all participants.

Following the President’s remarks, His Excellency H. E. Ioannis Plotas, Ambassador of Greece, welcomed the distinguished guests and acknowledged the contributions of the IWG President, Board members, the press, and all attendees.

Ambassador Plotas emphasized the strong cultural ties between Greece and Kuwait, rooted in shared history, Greek traditions, music, food, and dance, which have long captivated Kuwaiti audiences. He also referenced the historical passage of Greek ancestors, including during the era of Alexander the Great, to Failaka Island, as a foundation for lasting cultural appreciation and respect between the two nations.

The Ambassador highlighted Greece’s rich heritage, noting the enduring influence of the Greek language on global vocabulary, with words such as symphony, biography, rhapsody, anatomy, and philosophy originating from Greek. He congratulated all participants and especially the Greek team for presenting traditional Grecian outfits, dances, and authentic Greek cuisine.

A special segment featured Ms. Eleni Dimitriadou, a Greek psychotherapist and retreat specialist from Greece, who combines mental health expertise with holistic wellness practices. She shared practical insights on balanced living, and presented a short video showcasing a retreat experience in Greece, inspiring all to embrace mindfulness, self-care and a healthier lifestyle. The event concluded with lively Greek music and traditional dances, including the Island, Zebekikoand Zorba dances, leaving attendees immersed in Greek culture.
