Interior Ministry steps up Ramadan security and services

. . . to deploy special teams to tackle begging; traffic, residency, and service departments streamlined

The Ministry of Interior has formed special teams to monitor, track, and apprehend beggars who exploit the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan, particularly loitering around commercial markets and mosques to beg for alms.

The Ministry aims to eliminate the phenomenon of begging and illicit profiteering, which has reportedly increased in recent years.

The source explained that expatriates found begging especially those who enter the country under Article 22 residency permits — family reunification or visit visas — will face investigations to verify their visa type, reports Al-Anba daily..

Legal action and immediate deportation will follow in case of violations, and sponsors may also face penalties. Citizens and residents are urged to report any cases via the central operations line at 112, with security teams acting swiftly in coordination with field agencies.

Security cameras in markets and mosques will be used to document offenses, including publicly breaking the fast. Violators face penalties under Law No. 44 of 1968, which may include up to one-month imprisonment, a fine not exceeding KD 100, or both.

In addition to enforcement against begging, the Ministry has implemented an intensified traffic and security plan for Ramadan.

Patrols have been deployed across main roads, intersections, and high-traffic areas to ensure smooth movement and public safety, while also maintaining a safe environment for religious practices and shopping.

Regarding Ramadan working hours, the Ministry announced that its departments will operate from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, as per a circular issued to Brigadier General Abdullah Al-Ateeqi, Head of the Traffic and Operations Sector. This schedule aims to facilitate smooth transactions while accommodating fasting conditions.

Key departments under this schedule include the General Traffic Department (covering driving tests, vehicle inspections, and licensing), the General Department of Residency Affairs, the General Department of Service Centers, the General Department of Nationality and Travel Documents, and the General Department of Air Ports, including Kuwait International Airport and land border crossings.

The Ministry emphasized the use of digital and electronic services to reduce waiting times and improve efficiency.

Citizens and residents are encouraged to adhere to working hours, arrive with complete documents, and use available e-services. All Ministry sectors are working together to uphold efficiency, discipline, and public trust throughout the holy month.
