Interior Ministry busts major cable and transformer theft operation

The General Department of Criminal Investigations – Capital Governorate (Jaber Al-Ahmad Office) has announced the arrest of a gang specializing in stealing government transformers and cables.

Following extensive surveillance and investigations, detectives tracked down the main suspect on Monday, August 25, 2025, in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. He was caught transporting and storing large quantities of stolen government cables, reports Al-Rai daily.

Investigations led to the arrest of additional suspects of Bangladeshi and Indian nationalities, who admitted their role in purchasing and reselling stolen cables.

They also confirmed the involvement of a Kuwaiti citizen who owned the house used for storage and shared profits with the group.

Another group of workers from a company contracted with the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy was arrested while attempting to load stolen cables onto a government vehicle. They confessed to abusing their official duties by withholding cables from the ministry and selling them to the main suspect.

The suspects led authorities to another warehouse, believed to be the primary purchasing site. Large quantities of stolen cables — weighing over one ton — were recovered. The warehouse owner admitted to knowingly buying the stolen goods.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to protecting national security, stressing that legal measures will be taken against all those who attempt to tamper with state property or public safety.
