Zero tolerance toward unlawful behavior, openly breaking the fast during daylight hours punishable by law

Interior Ministry announces full security and traffic readiness plan for Ramadan

  • Increased patrols near mosques and markets as Kuwait steps up Ramadan safety measures
  • Authorities warn of penalties for public violations as Ramadan preparations intensify

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Major General Abdul Wahab Al-Wahib, announced that all ministry sectors have finalized comprehensive security, traffic and awareness preparations to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, to enhance safety, regulate traffic flow and promote positive community behavior.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Al-Wahib said the plan includes intensified security deployment around mosques, commercial markets, shopping malls and public gathering areas to ensure a safe and orderly environment throughout the month.

Traffic presence will also be reinforced on major and secondary roads, particularly during peak periods before Iftar and after Taraweeh prayers, to maintain smooth traffic movement and reduce violations. Patrols from the General Directorate of Traffic will closely monitor dangerous driving behaviors and respond immediately to congestion.

The ministry has additionally assigned field security teams to monitor and combat negative practices commonly seen during Ramadan, especially begging and illegal street vending, with strict legal action to be taken against violators to preserve public order and the country’s civilized appearance.

Al-Wahib stressed that authorities will show zero tolerance toward unlawful behavior, reminding the public that openly breaking the fast during daylight hours is punishable by law with a fine, imprisonment for up to one month, or both penalties. The law also applies to anyone who encourages or facilitates such violations, and authorities may temporarily close establishments involved.

He concluded by extending Ramadan greetings to Kuwait’s leadership, citizens and residents, praying for continued security, stability and prosperity for the country.
