Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency announced today that the death toll from recent floods and landslides has climbed to 1,003, while 218 people remain missing as rescue and search operations continue.
According to the agency, the floods — which struck North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh provinces about two weeks ago—have also left more than 5,400 people injured. In addition, approximately 1.2 million residents have been displaced and are currently living in temporary shelters, according to news reports.
Authorities said emergency teams remain on high alert, with ongoing efforts focused on locating the missing, providing medical care to the injured, and delivering humanitarian assistance to affected communities amid difficult conditions.
