Indian Embassy, APEDA showcase premium mango varieties and agro-products in Kuwait

India, one of Kuwait’s top trading partners, continues to strengthen bilateral ties through the agro-food sector—its leading export category to the Gulf nation. In an effort to further promote Indian produce, the Embassy of India in Kuwait, in collaboration with the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), organized a series of trade and cultural events focused on mangoes and other agro-products from 23–24 July 2025.
A delegation of 10 Indian exporters of mangoes and agro-products, led by APEDA, visited Kuwait to participate in promotional activities. The highlight of the campaign was “Mango Mania,” a flagship event held at Lulu Hypermarket in Al Rai.
Inaugurated by Ambassador H.E. Dr. Adarsh Swaika, the event introduced Kuwaiti consumers to premium mango varieties such as Chausa, Mallika, Amrapali, Dussheri, Fazli, and Langra, many of which originated in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The Fazli mango, notably, carries a Geographical Indication (GI) tag—signifying its unique regional identity and quality.
On 24 July, a Buyer-Seller Meet (BSM) was held at the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). The event was jointly inaugurated by the Indian Ambassador and the Director General of KCCI. Emphasizing the robust food-sector trade between the two nations, Ambassador Swaika noted that Kuwait ranks among the top five importers of Indian mangoes, with over $3 million worth of imports in the previous year. The event aimed to introduce Kuwaiti importers and retailers to mango varieties less common in the local market, thus diversifying offerings beyond familiar names like Alphonso and Badami.
The Indian delegation also held B2B meetings, visited hypermarkets and retail outlets, and interacted with leading Kuwaiti importers and distribution channels.
To further engage the public, a Mango Festival was held at Avenues Mall on 24 July, drawing enthusiastic participation from Kuwaiti officials, foreign diplomats, media, business figures, and members of the Indian diaspora.
Those who attended the event sampled a range of Indian mangoes and enjoyed culinary creations inspired by India’s rich mango-based gastronomy. As a continuation of the celebration, from July 25–27, the Indian Embassy will host mango tastings at select branches of the popular Indian restaurant chain Asha’s in Kuwait.
This initiative reinforced India’s image as a reliable source of premium agricultural products and sought to enhance market access for its wide variety of mangoes and processed agro-exports in the Kuwaiti market.
