Indian dockworkers reject loading ships with weapons for Israel

The decision by the All India Port and Dockworkers’ Federation deals a significant blow to Israel, which heavily relies on imported weapons.

In a significant act of solidarity with the Palestinians, a major Indian dockworkers union has made the resolute decision to abstain from loading or unloading ships transporting weapons destined for Israel.

Amid reports of India supplying Israel with 20 Heron 900 drones, employed in Gaza attacks, the All India Port and Dockworkers’ Federation, spanning workers at 11 major government-owned ports nationwide, has made a decision to abstain from loading or unloading ships carrying weapons for Israel.

Narendra Rao, the general secretary of the union, emphasized that the decision was a direct response to the inhuman killings of Palestinians by Israel.

As port workers, we will always stand against war and the killing of innocent people, including women and children, he said in a statement.

The union’s action deals a significant blow to Israel, which heavily relies on imported weapons. India is Israel’s largest arms supplier, accounting for nearly half of all Israeli arms exports.

The move also signals a growing support for Palestinians in India. Recently, there have been several protests and demonstrations in India against Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.

The Israeli government has not yet commented on the union’s decision.
