India beat England in 2nd Test, Gill and Akash Deep shine as India clinch historic win at Edgbaston

Level the 5-match series 1-1

India secured their first-ever Test victory at Edgbaston on Sunday, with a dominant performance on Day 5 of the second Test against England. Defending a mammoth target of 608 runs, the Indian team, led by Shubman Gill, wrapped up the match with a clinical all-round display.

England, facing immense scoreboard pressure, were left with little choice but to play for a draw — a hope that was dashed by India’s disciplined bowling and tactical brilliance.

Shubman Gill starred with the bat, scoring twin centuries — including a double hundred in the first innings — and leading the visitors from the front. He received vital support from Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, all of whom made key contributions throughout the match.

With the ball, Mohammed Siraj dominated the first innings, claiming six crucial wickets to halt England’s momentum despite centuries from Harry Brook and Jamie Smith.

However, England’s failure to match India’s first-innings total proved costly, as India’s bowlers, including Akash Deep (six wickets), dismantled the hosts on the final day.

England’s much-debated ‘Bazball’ approach came under fire as it faltered under pressure, with India executing their plans to perfection and sealing a memorable win in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.
