Human Rights awareness workshop for Deliveroo drivers

As part of its strategy of spreading human rights awareness, the National Bureau for Human Rights held a training workshop for Deliveroo drivers, in association with the Occupational Medicine Center at the Ministry of Health.

The workshop aimed to educate the drivers about rights that they could exercise. The Director of Research and Studies Department at the National Bureau for Human Rights, Anan Yousef Al-Mutawa, stated: “The Bureau, in its endeavor to spread human rights awareness, was keen to provide guidance especially for filing complaints with the National Bureau for Human Rights. It was also focused to raise awareness among workers about their right to occupational safety, in light of their difficult working conditions.”

The Director affirmed the Bureau’s commitment to provide support to less privileged groups in society. The Head of the Industrial Medical Center, Dr. Al-Anoud Al-Ateeq, stated that the center provided training workshops aimed at promoting the significance of safety and health of drivers and protecting them from occupational hazards.

The team conducted intensive training on issues that may affect the driver, such as dealing with heat stress, sunstroke, diabetes related problems, asthma, and more. The team also conducted medical examinations for the drivers, including blood pressure and vision checks, among others.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of Deliveroo Kuwait, Seham Al-Husseini, expressed her pleasure at this initiative by the government, particularly in the field of human rights, stating: “Our focus has always been on the safety and security of drivers, but we felt this initiative was appropriate, to ensure they receive adequate support including medical consultation and legal guidance.”

This workshop was a successful collaboration between government institutions and the private sector, to ensure the protection of workers’ rights and highlight their occupational safety.
