Holy Mass held for Pope Leo XIV

A solemn Holy Mass for the beginning of the Pontificate of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV was celebrated by His Grace Eugene Nugent and His Excellency Bishop Aldo Berardi at the Holy Family Cathedral in Kuwait on Sunday 18 May.

A large gathering of worshippers including diplomats from various countries attended the celebration to pray for the new Pope.

In his message while presiding over his inaugural Mass at the Vatican, marking the official beginning of his papacy, Pope Leo XIV emphasized unity, love, and rejection of hatred, calling for the Church to be a force for peace in a world facing division and conflict.

In the joy of faith and communion, we cannot forget our brothers and sisters who are suffering because of war,” said Pope Leo XIV. He recalled that the surviving children, families and elderly in Gaza have been reduced to starvation, as the Israel-Hamas war continues.
