Higher Education considers European system differences in graduate appointments
The Ministry of Higher Education approved standardizing the grading scale for European qualifications; ensuring assessments align with each country’s academic system.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nader Al-Jalal, has approved the recommendation of the committee to standardize the Verbal Grading Scale and Academic Average for qualifications issued by European Scholarship Countries. This committee, formed under Ministerial Resolution No. (249) on August 12, 2024, is led by the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education.
The Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Lamia Al-Mulhim, stated in a press release that the committee recommended evaluating the academic qualifications of job applicants based on the academic systems and classifications specific to each European country. This approach acknowledges the variations in assessment criteria and grading scales across different nations.
Al-Mulhim added that coordination has been established with government institutions by providing them with country-specific standards based on European academic systems, including British, French, German, Italian, and Spanish frameworks. This proposal aims to ensure that job announcements align with these classifications, allowing applicants to be assessed according to recognized academic standards.
Furthermore, Al-Mulhim emphasized that adopting the Ministry of Higher Education’s proposed recommendation in future job advertisements will significantly enhance the alignment between European academic qualifications and labor market requirements. This initiative aims to attract the most suitable talent with greater accuracy and efficiency.
