HEISCO wins landmark power plant overhaul contracts

Kuwait’s industrial heavyweight Heavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Company (HEISCO) has reinforced its dominance in the national energy sector after securing major contracts exceeding $440 million from the Ministry of Electricity, Water & Renewable Energy, marking a decisive leap in the country’s power infrastructure upgrade drive.
At the heart of the award is a 136.65 million dinars ($443 million) contract for the rehabilitation and lifetime extension of Az-Zour South Power & Water Distillation Station, one of Kuwait’s most critical electricity and desalination facilities, according to SG Projects.
The project scope includes:
- Boiler rehabilitation and lifetime extension,
- Complete replacement of control systems for boilers, steam turbines and auxiliaries,
- Works covering eight generating units at the Az-Zour South complex.
The tender was floated by the Ministry of Electricity, Water & Renewable Energy, underlining the government’s push to modernize aging assets and safeguard long-term power and water security.
In parallel, HEISCO has also secured a separate contract worth 57.2 million dinars ($186 million) to deliver supply, commissioning and maintenance services for:
- Construction of power transmission lines feeding Al Khairan Power Plant, and
- Development of fuel receiving infrastructure systems for Al-Zour Power Plant.
Together, these projects place HEISCO at the center of Kuwait’s strategic energy transformation — from generation to transmission and fuel handling.
