The Ministry of Health has announced the completion of ISO 22000:2018 certification for the food safety management system at 20 food preparation sites across its hospitals and health centers, marking a major milestone in strengthening food safety standards within the public health sector.
The announcement was made in the presence of Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, who noted that the achievement crowns the full accreditation of all food preparation facilities affiliated with the Nutrition and Feeding Department in the Public Health Sector in line with this internationally recognized standard.

In a statement, the ministry said the certification reflects the culmination of integrated and sustained efforts to enhance food safety systems across health facilities, ensuring the provision of safe, high-quality meals for patients, staff and visitors in accordance with approved international best practices, reports Al-Rai daily.
The ministry explained that obtaining ISO 22000:2018 certification demonstrates a firm commitment to the systematic and documented application of the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) system.
This approach helps prevent food-related risks, strengthens quality control procedures and promotes a culture of continuous improvement within food preparation and service units.
Officials added that the accreditation contributes to raising confidence among patients and beneficiaries in the food services provided at health facilities, while reinforcing food safety as a key component supporting medical treatment and patient care.
The Ministry of Health affirmed that this achievement aligns with its broader vision to improve the quality of healthcare support services, protect patient health and ensure a safe food environment.
It also emphasized that work will continue to further develop systems and human resources, strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure the sustainability of the highest standards of food safety and quality across all health facilities.
ISO 22000:2018 is one of the world’s leading food safety certifications. It confirms that certified entities implement an integrated food risk management system covering all stages of food handling — from receiving raw materials and preparation to storage and final service — thereby reducing health risks and preventing food contamination.
