“Health Ministry” confirms no casualty after small fire at old Ahmadi Hospital

After a fire broke out this evening in the radiology department of the old Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) Children’s Hospital in Ahmadi Governorate, no casualties were reported. As firefighting teams along with dozens of ambulances, responded to the scene, leading to the full evacuation of the hospital.

As a preventive measure, 29 cases were transferred from the fire site to the children’s department at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital.

The official spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, stated that the old Ahmadi Hospital, currently designated for receiving pediatric patients from Al-Adan Hospital, was affected by a limited fire incident this evening.

Al-Sanad stated that the intensive efforts and rapid response resulted in no injuries among patients, medical teams, or ambulance teams.

Explaining further Al-Sanad stated that the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, and other senior officials were present at the scene of the incident and at the supporting hospitals to directly oversee the response efforts and ensure the provision of necessary care.

As a precautionary step, Al-Sanad noted that upon receiving the report, the emergency plan was activated in coordination with relevant authorities. Ambulances were promptly dispatched to the site, and the General Fire Force, along with the Ministry of Interior, cooperated in managing the incident.

Similarly, a comprehensive and rapid evacuation process was also carried out for all patients and workers from the general wards and intensive care units to ensure their safety.

Moreover, as part of the emergency plan, the new Ahmadi Hospital was designated as the primary support hospital, followed by Al-Adan Hospital as the second, and Jaber Hospital as the third support hospital.

Al-Sanad confirmed that the cases were distributed as follows: 10% were transferred to the new Ahmadi Hospital, 20% to Al-Adan Hospital, and 70% to Jaber Hospital, ensuring continuity of care with the highest efficiency.

In addition, Al-Sanad stated that specialized teams transferred essential medicines and medical supplies to the alternative hospitals to ensure their availability. Furthermore, the remaining medicines and medical files are being transferred to ensure the continuity of emergency care.

Al-Sanad mentioned that investigations are going on by the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the fire. Initial reports suggest that smoke was first observed in one of the hospital’s X-ray rooms.

Summarizing the rescue operations, Al-Sanad stated that, due to the temporary closure of the children’s emergency department at the old Ahmadi Hospital, the reception of children’s emergency cases has been redirected to the emergency departments at Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Farwaniya, Amiri, Sabah, and Jahra hospitals. This measure ensures the continued delivery of medical services with the highest efficiency and safety.
