A senior Hamas leader told Agence France-Presse on Saturday that the movement will not take part in the signing ceremony of the Gaza peace agreement scheduled to be held in Egypt, aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing war.
“Hamas will not be participating in the signing process — only American and Israeli mediators and officials,” said Hossam Badran, a member of the movement’s political bureau, in an interview conducted in Doha.
Badran dismissed as “absurd and nonsense” the reports suggesting that Hamas leaders could leave the Gaza Strip as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace proposal.
He emphasized, “The idea of expelling Palestinians — whether from Hamas or elsewhere — from their own land is absurd and nonsense. No Palestinian can accept such a thing.”
The peace ceremony, to be attended by U.S. and Israeli representatives, comes amid international efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire and stabilize Gaza after months of devastating conflict.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Egypt on Monday to support the implementation of the Gaza agreement, underscoring renewed diplomatic momentum in the region.
