Hamas accepts most terms of US proposal, awaits Israeli approval: Abdelatty

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said today that Hamas has agreed to most of the provisions in the proposal presented by US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, stressing that the next step depends on approval from the Israeli side.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement, Abdelatty discussed the issue during a phone call with Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, as part of regular consultations on bilateral ties and developments in Gaza.

Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s continued efforts to broker a ceasefire that would bring an end to hostilities, ensure the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, and secure the release of Palestinian detainees.

He also referred to his recent visit to the Rafah crossing with the Palestinian Prime Minister, saying that the crossing operates around the clock on the Egyptian side.

The minister urged international pressure on the Israeli occupation to open Gaza’s crossings and called on the Netherlands to leverage its role within the European Union to help end the humanitarian crisis.

Separately, Abdelatty raised concerns over the security of Egypt’s diplomatic mission in the Netherlands following a recent attack on its embassy building in The Hague. He emphasized the host country’s responsibility under international law to provide protection and warned against any recurrence.

For his part, Foreign Minister Veldkamp praised Egypt’s mediating role and support for the Palestinian people. He expressed regret over the embassy incident, describing it as an isolated case, and assured that Dutch authorities would reinforce security measures in line with international obligations. He also reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and the Netherlands, particularly in economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
