The Board of Directors of the Gulf Journalists Union issued a statement in which they stressed that the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries are exposed to danger from time to time by groups with known sources, goals and intentions, using suspicious and misleading media and fake accounts on social media, which requires everyone to unite to confront these dangers.
This came during a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Union held in the Omani state of Salalah at the invitation of the Omani Journalists Association, where the statement reiterated the need to support and assist journalists in performing their duty and provide reliable information to educate individuals to confront negative phenomena.
The statement pointed to the need to intensify efforts to spread correct information and enhance awareness among social media users about various issues related to the Gulf public opinion.
The statement also stressed freedom of opinion, with the establishment of controls that guarantee the security of Gulf societies from the risks of misuse of media and social communication, which undermine stability and aim to incite public opinion, sedition and hatred.
