Guidelines for extending Eid al-Adha holiday to 9 days released

The immediate supervisor has the authority to approve or reject an employee’s holiday extension request and must provide reasons for their decision.

  • Newly appointed employees can only request periodic leave after six months from their start date, and they will receive accrued leave salary when they take it. The employee must submit a leave request at least two days in advance.

  • Employees, whether new or existing, can take medical leave and then travel abroad, but they cannot initiate medical leave while already outside Kuwait.

Sources informed Al-Anbaa newspaper that an employee is only allowed to cease working within the boundaries of authorized leaves. Newly appointed employees can only request periodic leave after six months from their start date, and they will receive accrued leave salary when they take it. The employee must submit a leave request at least two days in advance.

Sources addressed a query regarding the process if an employee intends to extend the Eid al-Adha holiday to nine days, spanning Wednesday and Thursday of this month (the 19th and 20th), by not working and submitting periodic leave afterward. The sources explained that the immediate supervisor has the authority to approve or reject the request, providing reasons for their decision.

If necessary, the matter can be escalated to administrative affairs, which will consider the supervisor’s opinion and the employee’s reasons before making a decision.

Regarding medical leave, sources clarified that employees, whether new or existing, can take medical leave and then travel abroad, but they cannot initiate medical leave while already outside the country.

Notably, a service for obtaining sick leave without medical consultation has been introduced through electronic platforms. However, the duration of sick leave granted should not exceed three days per month and should not be taken consecutively.
