Guidance for Canadian citizens planning to depart Kuwait

The Government of Canada has issued guidance for Canadian citizens in Kuwait who are planning to leave the country amid the current regional situation.

Authorities advised that Canadians who choose to depart and believe it is safe to do so may use land border crossings into Saudi Arabia, which remain open at this time.

The two operational border crossings are Al Salmi / Ar-Ruqi and Al Nuwaiseeb / Al-Khafji.

Travelers must ensure they have:

Valid passport
Required visas (Canadians can obtain a visa at the border)
Civil ID (for residents)

If applicable you may also require vehicle registration, cross border vehicle insurance, and authorization if the vehicle is not in your name. Rental cars must explicitly allow cross border travel.

If you are travelling with pets, please ensure you meet Saudi Arabia’s pet import requirements, as animals may be denied entry without proper documents

Travel is at your discretion.

Before departing, confirm your route and that the border crossing is open, and review Saudi Arabia’s entry requirements.

Licensed tour operators, taxis, or buses may also assist. Border crossings on foot are not permitted.

Please carry sufficient food, water, and any required medication for the journey.

Officials urged citizens to closely monitor official updates and assess their safety before undertaking travel.
