Govt forms two central committees to overhaul industrial land management

Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajeel is said to have established two high-level committees, bringing together representatives from multiple ministries and government bodies, to address challenges in the industrial land sector.

The aim is to develop strategies for better utilization, strengthen oversight, and resolve long-standing issues affecting industrial zones.

The first committee, chaired by the Director General of the Public Authority for Industry, will study industrial and non-industrial zones under the Authority’s supervision, reports Al-Rai daily.

Its mandate includes identifying obstacles to construction projects, resolving issues related to relocating sites, clarifying responsibilities among government entities, and proposing measures to enhance coordination in the industrial sector.

The committee includes representatives from the ministries of Commerce and Industry, Finance, Justice, Public Works, and Interior, as well as the Kuwait Municipality, the Kuwait Fire Force, and the Environment Public Authority.

The second, the Industrial Land Monitoring Committee, will conduct comprehensive surveys of all plots managed by the Public Authority for Industry, detect violations, and ensure legal action is taken.

It will also prepare detailed reports on the current state of these areas and the corrective measures implemented. This committee, also chaired by the Authority’s Director General, includes representatives from the ministries of Commerce and Industry, Justice, and Interior, along with the Kuwait Municipality, the Kuwait Fire Force, and the Environment Public Authority.

According to the Minister’s decision, the committees began their work following their first meeting yesterday.

They have one month to present a final report—extendable with ministerial approval—detailing their findings, proposals, and recommendations.

The committees are authorized to request all necessary information, consult experts when needed, and establish specialized work teams to carry out specific tasks.

All relevant sectors are required to fully cooperate and provide timely access to documents and records to ensure the committees can fulfill their mandates effectively.
