Govt eases rules for ‘wives’ of revoked citizenships category for limited period
Special benefits offered to those who rectify their status on time
Women whose Kuwaiti citizenship was revoked under Article 8 (“Foreign wives of Kuwaitis”) and Article 5 (“distinguished services category”) will still be able to manage their business shares and commercial licenses.
They will be allowed to sell or reduce their shares in companies, renew licenses, or liquidate part of their ownership, unless they are banned for security reasons.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry will enable these transactions through its systems, and all procedures will be officially documented in the records of the Ministry of Justice, reports Al-Rai daily.
However, this permission will only apply during the grace period given by the government for them to correct their citizenship status.
Once the deadline passes, the systems will close again for those who have not rectified their status.
If they succeed in regularizing their status before the deadline, they will be able to keep all their shares — even if their ownership exceeds 50 percent — since they are expected to be eligible for special benefits.
